Astrology is the study of patterns and relationship of planets, signs, houses and constellation. Astrology can give us a deeper understanding of all our relationships-with bosses, siblings, parents, friends and partners.

Horoscopes claim to explain aspects of someone’s personality and predict future events in their life based on the Sun, Moon and other planetary objects at the time of birth. It is derived from a combination of two words – Horo and scopes. “Horo” signifies the hour and “scopes” the observer.

Sun-Sign Astrology

Most people associate astrology with their zodiac sign – one of the 12 constellations. This is known as sun-sign astrology and often, newspaper horoscopes make use of this simplest and limited form of astrology – which requires nothing other than the date of someone’s birth to generate a sun-sign horoscope. Zodiac Signs

There are twelve signs in the zodiac, each with their own set of characteristics. They are categorized in several ways. Two of the main ways are by their element and by their masculinity.

By element:

• Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
• Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
• Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
• Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

By masculinity:

• Feminine signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces)
• Masculine signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius)

Astrologers tend to form much more specific profiles of a person’s personality, life and future prospects by combining planets at the time of birth with houses and angles. Astrology varies between cultures, some of which combined to evolve into today’s common western astrology. Eastern cultures continue to practice their own forms of astrology: Chinese, Vedic and Tibetan astrology are among the most well-known.
